Safe travels
Last night I traveled (in ‘real’ time) to the very interesting meeting of the Laser Institute of America’s Northeast Regional Chapter, where I was joined by nearly 70 colleagues for a presentation by Ronald Mallett, a professor of theoretical physics at the University of Connecticut and a noted lecturer and author on the subject of time travel. In fact, his time travel research has been featured in a special on the Learning Channel called “The World’s First Time Machine,” and he has written a book on the subject, “Time Traveler: A Scientist’s Personal Mission to Make Time Travel a Reality.”
The interesting connection between Professor Mallett and yesterday’s assembled audience is that he is actively involved in researching circulating, high-power laser light (ring lasers) and its potential applications to time travel. Of specific interest to Industrial Laser Solutions is his early experience in work for Pratt & Whitney in applying industrial lasers to drilling holes in turbine blades—a topic quite familiar to our readers.
Kudos to the chapter organizers for delivering a meeting that was both interesting and thought provoking and that stimulated a fair amount of energy among attendees. Other regional chapters should take note. Laureen Belleville ILS e-newsletter editor
