 Nichia topped the list of HB-LED suppliers in 2010, and Korean manufacturers ranked highly.
Osram agrees to buy fellow lighting manufacturer Siteco

 Major IC makers including Texas Instruments, NXP, Marvell, On Semiconductor, STMicroelectronics, and Microsemi announced new SSL driver technologies at Strategies in Light, and complementary enabling technology was prevalent on the exhibit floor.
LED market grew by 93% in 2010, driven by backlights
The global market for packaged high-brightness LEDs is expected to reach USD18.9 billion by 2015, according to Strategies Unlimited.

LRC evaluates LED and induction street-lights for local roads
RPI’s Lighting Research Center has published another specifier report on LED street lights focusing this time on residential roadways, and again found that an HPS light generally outperformed the SSL products.
Aixtron reports massive growth in revenue and profits
 Aixtron, which supplies deposition equipment to LED chip makers, increased its revenue by more than two-and-a-half times in 2010, and increased its operating profit by more than four times.
Monocrystal announces strong financial results for FY 2010
 The Russia-based supplier of sapphire substrates more than trebled its revenue in 2010, and says it is observing a rapid shift at the forefront of LED manufacturing towards using larger-size sapphire wafers.

Osram introduces new Orbeos OLED panels
 With two new Orbeos panels, Osram is progressing the development of OLED technology one step further towards mass application. Both panels are mirrored and warm-white – one is rectangular, the other one round. The Orbeos product family is already in series production.
Sharp 10W Mini Zeni provides LED light source for 50W retrofit lamps
Sharp has expanded its high-power LED module portfolio by adding six 10W Mini Zeni components. They are compact, economical and have a light output of up to 690 lumens, a luminous flux of up to 73 lm/W, a high CRI value of 87 and a long service life of 40,000 hours at an operating temperature of 80 deg.C.
Excelsys introduces ultra-compact 100W LED power supply with 5-year warranty
 Excelsys Technologies has introudced the LDV series of ultra-compact LED drivers delivering up to 92W of output power in the smallest package size available in the market today, just 28 mm high x 40 mm wide. These waterproof IP67, Class 2 LED drivers offer efficiencies of over 90%
Cree expands broadest portfolio of lighting-class LEDs optimized for distributed illumination
 Cree announces the commercial availability of the XLamp ML-B LED. Designed for quarter-watt operation, the XLamp ML-B LED brings lighting-class performance to distributed lighting applications where the light source is visible, such as panel lights and LED-based fluorescent tube replacements.
