Hyperdynamics looks ahead in Guinea
Gene Kliewer, Technology Editor
Guinea will no longer be one of the largest undeveloped offshore exploration areas in West Africa when Hyperdynamics completes its current plans for development of its 31,000 sq mi (80,290 sq km) holdings.
Building on legacy data, Hyperdynamics plans to conduct a 12,000 km (7,456 mi) grid of 2D and 3D seismic surveys in 2008 to investigate some 25 known prospects and to define some sound drilling prospects, says Kent Watts, CEO.
“We are looking to acquire additional seismic as quickly and as reasonably as possible. This is the largest concession off West Africa, Hyperdynamcis has the exclusive production sharing contract for it, and we want to move forward,” he says. “We would like to have prospects to drill this year.”
Expectations are high as this area is part of the Transform Margin play all along the western coast of Africa which has recorded nearly 40 discoveries to date.
