:: Seismic work starts offshore Kenya
Gippsland Offshore Petroleum is funding 1,200 km (745 mi) of 2D seismic surveying offshore Kenya in order to earn a 60% equity in Lamu basin's L-6 block. It also will become the operator.

:: 3D seismic begins in Katandra off Australia
OMV Australia Ltd. has scheduled a $3.5-million 3D seismic survey for this week in the Timor Sea Katandra prospect offshore Australia, says partner Avery Resources Inc.

:: 3D seismic completed at Kambuna in Indonesia
Veritas has completed a 432 sq km (167 sq mi) 3D seismic survey for GFI Oil and Gas Corp. on Glagah Kambuna field offshore Indonesia. Upon completion of the final processing, GFI will ask McDaniels and Associates to update field reserves estimates.

Ikon Science subsidiary GeoPressure Technology (GPT) has issued a new pressure study for mid-Norway, in partnership with IHS.

:: Al-Khafji JV awards seismic work to Fugro
The Al-Khafji Joint Operations has awarded high density 3D and regional 2D marine seismic data acquisition and processing to Fugro

:: Norway's reserves 'unchanged'
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate estimates Norway's remaining producible reserves at 8.6 bcm of oil equivalent, with 50 discoveries potentially in line for development.

:: Hydro opts for integration software
Hydro has selected Schlumberger's Windows-based Petrel software for its global subsurface reservoir characterization. The company will use the software "to develop and refine workflows across multiple technical disciplines

:: IMV Projects Atlantic lands Arctic E&P study
The US Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service has awarded IMV Projects Atlantic a contract for a study titled "Arctic Offshore Technology Assessment of Exploration and Production Options for Cold Regions of the US Outer Continental Shelf."

:: GXT awards East Africa 2D survey to SCAN
GX Technology has contracted SCAN Geophysical to acquire up to 9,000 km (5,592 mi) of long-offset 2D data offshore East Africa as part of GXT's East AfricaSPAN program.

:: EQUIPMENT & ENGINEERING
:: Arrow Seismic awards streamer handling system
Arrow Seismic has awarded a $9.7 million contract to ODIM ASA for an automated seismic equipment handling system.

:: RTX buys fourth VSO system from I/O
Reservoir Exploration Technology has purchased for $29 million its fourth VectorSeisOcean system from Input/Output Inc. VSO is a redeployable, ocean-bottom cable seismic imagining system that supports multi-component data acquisition. Delivery is scheduled to start in 4Q 2007.

:: ODIM to supply seismic handling systems
ODIM ASA has reported contracts for automated handling systems on several seismic projects for delivery into 2009. The contracts total $16.28 million.

:: TRENDS & STATISTICS
:: Oman seismic survey completed
Circle Oil Plc. successfully completed a 6,300 km (3,915 mi) seismic survey over block 52, in the Arabian Sea, off the southwestern coast of Oman. The TGS-Nopec Geophysical performed the 2-D seismic run.

:: Indonesia plans to offer 40 blocks
The Indonesian government is planning to offer 40 additional blocks this year through tender calls or on directly negotiated offers. The move is designed to raise the rapid decline in domestic crude oil production, which last year fell to 1.01 million b/d, below the government's 1.05 million b/d target.

:: Spratly survey to lead Vietnamese deepwater exploration
Deepwater exploration offshore Vietnam is expected to progress gradually. A step toward deepwater exploration is a 2D seismic survey now under way around the once disputed Spratly Islands under a tripartite agreement with the Philippines and China.
